What is an iPhone unlock?

As the majority of owners already know, most iPhones are sold as "SIM  locked". This lock restricts the use of the phone to one particular network carrier, a common practice with subsidised GSM phones. Unlike most GSM phones however, the iPhone cannot be unlocked by entering a simple unlock code. The locked/unlocked state of an iPhone is maintained on Apple’s server, is controlled via the IMEI number (international mobile station equipment identity) and set when the iPhone is activated. Through our unique ability to access Apple's servers directly, we are able to offer our customers official or factory IMEI unlocks, identical to those provided by the networks themselves. Our unlocks are permanent, will not void your iPhones manufacturer warranty and work with any level of firmware or baseband version. You can safely upgrade your iPhones iOS now, or at anytime in the future, with no fear of your iPhone re-locking (unlike any other iPhone unlocking method currently available on the market).

What does unlocking an iPhone mean and what does it do?

Unlocking refers to the removal of the SIM lock place on a handset which restricts the use of the phone to one particular network carrier. Unlocking an iPhone removes this SIM lock and enables an iPhone to be used on any GSM network, anywhere in the world.

Which iPhone's can you unlock?

We are able to unlock any model of iPhone (regardless of iOS, firmware or baseband levels). Our unlocking service ensures your warranty is preserved and your handset is guaranteed to perform just as it did prior to unlocking.

How does your service work?

Check our site here to see if we currently offer an unlock for your model of iPhone and the network it is locked to is supported. If so, simply place your order and then wait for a confirmation email from us advising you that your unlock has been processed. Completing the final stage of the unlock is simply a matter of performing a restore of your handset from within iTunes.

The process from our end is as follows: Your IMEI is submitted to Apple's unlocking server. Once your order reaches the front of the queue, your IMEI is processed and your handset registered as unlocked in Apple's database. We will then automatically email you confirmation your order has been completed.

When you receive this confirmation, simply follow these instructions (included in the email) to complete the unlocking process in iTunes. The unlock will work regardless of the level of firmware or baseband currently running on your handset, is permanent and will NOT void your manufacturer's warranty. This method of unlocking will also allow the safe updating of an iPhone's firmware, now or in the future, while maintaining the permanent unlock.

Why should I unlock my iPhone?

Unlocking your iPhone has many benefits. Apart from the obvious benefit of being able to use your device on any network and therefore have more control over your spending, unlocking can also raise the resale value of your handset by as much as 100%. If you travel overseas, you can use a local SIM card in an unlocked handset and avoid expensive roaming charges from your provider back home.

Why are iPhone's locked to start with?

Carriers often provide handsets at subsidised prices. By locking a handset, a carrier ties a customer to their network, enabling them to recover the cost of the subsidy by factoring an additional cost in a customers monthly bill. In short, the subsidy is paid back over time by charging the customer a little "extra" every month for the duration of their contract.

Is unlocking my handset legal?

In the UK, network carriers are not legally obligated to unlock a handset from their network, meaning that they do not have to comply with consumers request to unlock a device, even if it is no longer under contract. In fact Oftel allowed the network carrier "3" to sell handsets with the SIM card permanently super glued in place! However the Oftel 2002 SIM-lock position paper states that there is no law governing SIM locking in the UK, meaning it is totally legal for us to unlock customers mobile phone's from here in the UK. Laws may differ in other locations.

What kind of unlocks does your service provide?

We provide what is sometimes referred to as an "official", "factory" or  "IMEI" unlocking service. An iPhone's unique International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI number is registered as unlocked in Apple's database. The unlock is completed using iTunes and processed by Apple.

Do I have to send my iPhone to you to have it unlocked?

No, we offer a completely remote iPhone unlocking services so there is no need for you to send your handset to us. The unlocking process is completed by the customer through iTunes.

Once I unlock my phone, will I have to unlock it again after updating it in iTunes?

No, once you use our unlocking services once, you will never have to repeat the unlock as your phone will be permanently unlocked, even after updating the phone's firmware or iOS.

My iPhone network isn’t listed on your site, can you still unlock it?

Possibly. Contact us via our support page and we will be able to better advise you when we have the details of your requirements. We are continually expanding our service to  incorporate new locations and networks. If we can't offer you an unlocking service to suit your requirements today, we may well be able to tomorrow, so ensure you check back here frequently.

I am unsure which network my iPhone is currently locked to?

We offer an IMEI database look-up service which will correctly identify the network that your handset is currently locked to. There is a small charge for this process but the information received is as listed on Apple's servers and guaranteed to be 100% accurate. To utilise this service simply click here or select NETWORK FINDER on the order page.

What will I receive after I place an order?

As the unlock is processed remotely and the final stage is completed by the customer using iTunes, all you will receive from us are two emails. The first will simply notify you that payment has ben received and your order has been placed. Once your order has been processed by Apple you will receive the second email notifying you of this. Once this email is received all you need do is follow these instructions to complete the unlocking process in iTunes.

How can I pay for an unlock?

We accept all major credit/debit cards. We also employ tight security measures to combat internet credit card fraud. Any attempt to defraud our organisation will be reported to the relevant authorities and credit reference agencies, and will result in the handset being re-locked, or worse!

What information do you require in order to unlock my iPhone?

We need to know the model of iPhone (3G, 3Gs, iPhone 4 etc) the network it is currently locked to and the unique IMEI number.

It is extremely important that you correctly select the network your phone is CURRENTLY locked to and that you enter the first 15 digits of your iPhone's unique IMEI number accurately. Our system if fully automated and we cannot manually correct any errors after an order has been submitted. If you enter information incorrectly when ordering we cannot be held responsible and are unable to issue refunds under such circumstances.

Why can't you issue a refund if I entered my details incorrectly?

We offer a personalised unlocking service using the details and unique IMEI number you provide at the point of order. The service cannot be transferred or utilised by a third party. We pay our suppliers up front to process all orders. Our system automatically submit the details you provide to our suppliers for immediate processing, regardless of accuracy, and at cost to us. Therefore it is your responsibility to ensure the details provided at the point of order are accurate.

How can I find my iPhone's IMEI number?

Your IMEI number is a long,15-digit number, unique to your handset.

Some handset may have a 17 digit IMEI number - for unlocking purposes, only the first 15 digits of this number are required.

You can locate your IMEI number by dialing *#06# on the iPhone's telephone keypad.

You can also find your IMEI number by navigating to the Settings > General > About screen on your iPhone.

If you do not have access to the iPhone's screen, the IMEI number can be located on the SIM tray of the handset.

Locate IMEI number.

* Please be advised that it is possible to swap SIM trays between handsets.

If you are still stuck, try the steps outlined by Apple here.

How much does your service cost?

A list of currently available network unlocks and prices can be found here.

How long will it take to process my order?

After receipt of payment, orders are automatically submitted to our suppliers. The network your handset is currently locked to will dictate both the cost and time it takes to process your order. We state an approximate time frame for order processing. As the process involves the use of third parties, we can offer no guarantees on these processing times.

Orders are sometimes completed with in a few hours, but on occasions the process exceeds the approximate time frame quoted. We have no control over these processing times, the unlocking process is controlled by the networks, and is why we only quote an approximate time frame for order completion.

In the event of a significant delay, there is no automatic right to cancelation, but if you contact us we will see if our supplier is prepared to cancel the order.

You may track the progress of your order from here.
